Job Purpose

The Student Life Coordinator is a hired position that will assist the President and other FSU Coordinators in the day-to-day operations of the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), with a focus on student life and social engagement. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for all FSU social and campus awareness events;
  • Liaise with the relevant managers, staff, and student volunteers to ensure event success;
  • Provide advice and feedback on social and campus budgets;
  • When permitted, attend all College and Student Union Committee meetings, including, but not limited to: College Council, College Student Union, Executive Committee, Athletic Committee meetings;
  • Encourage event participation and collaborate with students on campus to gather feedback and data on various social events and present ideas and details to Executive team;
  • Provide direction for the logistical implementation of events through informal weekly meetings;
  • Liaise between the FSU and Residence for the exchange of information to enhance student engagement and plan relevant events accordingly;
  • Responsible for Residence programs;
  • Responsible for planning and implementing Orientation and assist Finance Coordinator with Charity events;
  • Responsible for the recruitment and coordination of FSU Volunteers, onboarding, and events;
  • Plan and execute the Student Impact Gala and Volunteer Fair;
  • Remain well-informed of local community and provincial events, and relay information to the Executive Committee;
  • Assist the Finance Coordinator by providing feedback on budgets as required;
  • Complete post-event evaluation reports for all events during the year;
  • May be assigned additional duties as requested by the President.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • The Student Life Coordinator is required to be a full-time student of Fanshawe College as per By-Law No. 1. 
  • Previous experience in successfully planning and coordinating large and small events;
  • Leadership experience;
  • Bondable;
  • Energy and enthusiasm;
  • Ability to multi-task;
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;
  • Experience with various social media platforms;
  • Attention to detail;
  • Commitment to role and ability to think outside the box;
  • Team player;
  • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written);
  • Enjoys a challenge and willing to make a difference

Time Commitment

The Student Life Coordinator will be remunerated based on the number of hours worked:

  • Average thirty-five (35) hours per week during the period between May 1st and August 31st;
  • Average twelve (12) hours – (16) sixteen hours per week during the period between September 1st and April 30th;
  • Additionally, the Student Life Coordinator may be required to work evenings and weekends.
