Job Purpose

The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator is a hired position that will assist the President and other FSU Coordinators in the day-to-day operations of the Fanshawe Student Union (FSU), with a focus on internal and external advocacy and communications. 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and manage the student class representative system;
  • Perform yearly assessment of internal policies with President;
  • Advocate on behalf of the student membership within and external to the College;
  • Support students in all academic appeals unless there is a conflict of interest, or as assigned by the President;
  • Act as the communications facilitator between the FSU and other colleges and universities;
  • Liaison between area campuses and main campus, including the development of a communication strategy;
  • Remain well-informed of local community and provincial events, and relay information to the Executive Committee;
  • Hold seat on the respective City of London Advisory Committee to represent and advocate for Fanshawe students; re-apply in years where a new application is necessary (4-year term);
  • When permitting, attend all College and Student Union Committee meetings, including, but not limited to: College Council, Ombuds Committee, College Student Union, and Executive Committee meetings, Communications meetings;
  • Assist the Student Life Coordinator with the recruitment and coordination of FSU Volunteers;
  • Assist the Student Life Coordinator with Orientation and other student life events; 
  • Responsible for all clubs and organizations under the supports of the FSU and ensure all clubs adhere to the Clubs Policy and Fanshawe College Code of Conduct;
  • Complete post-event evaluation reports for respective events; 
  • Assist the Finance Coordinator by providing feedback on budgets as required;
  • May be assigned additional duties as requested by the President.

  • The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator is required to be a full-time student of Fanshawe College as per By-Law No. 1

Time Commitment

The Advocacy & Communications Coordinator will be remunerated based on the number of hours worked:

  • Average thirty-five (35) hours per week during the period between May 1st and August 31st;
  • Average twelve (12) hours – sixteen (16) hours per week during the period between September 1st and April 30th;
  • Additionally, the Advocacy & Communications Coordinator may be required to work evenings and weekends.
